WhereIsIt uses a unique voice prompting technique.
Because of the lack of names, signs, addresses, and unstructured nature of oilfield roads, conventional GPS directional logic does not provide efficient oilfield navigation.
WhereIsIt 2012 uses a built in MapQuest routing engine to navigate the user as close to the target as possible given the data available in the MapQuest database.
The program then guides the user to the desired destination using distance and direction prompts at a user defined frequency. The distance is expressed in yards (miles if over 1000 yards), and the direction is given in terms of a “clock” heading to the target, relative to the current direction of travel .
For example:
· “300 yards at your 12’ O’clock” = 300 yards straight ahead
· “100 yards at your 6 O’ clock” = 100 yards in the opposite direction (directly behind)
· “70 yards at your 9 O’clock” = 70 yards to the left of your current heading/direction
And so on…
Voice prompts provide a clear, concise, accurate, and safe means of navigation. Most users can look in the “prompted direction” the prompted distance” and see the target well before arrival.
Golfers, hunters, baseball and football fans can generally spot their targets in any direction quite accurately when inside of 500 yards using familiar distances. “Distance challenged” users may need some practice to spot targets at a distance, but even these users can almost always travel directly to the target (but generally need a higher voice frequency setting).
The idea is to minimize distracted driving by “listening and not looking at a computer for targets” while the vehicle is in motion. The WhereIsIt voice prompting method is time proven and has been developed and optimized for oilfield use and it really works!
Net Result: WhereIsIt = Safety + Efficiency + Productivity
